Surf into the future with foils

Surf into the future with foils

We promise you, at the Paris 2024 Olympics windsurfing will look completely different. The World Sailing Association has decided to replace the traditional RS:X board with the so-called iFoil, a board with a wing construction at the bottom. This fin with wings is a real gamechanger. For foil surfing doesn’t requires waves to get going. You can do it almost anywhere. Just Focus and make the most of whatever condition you have.

Pioneers above the water

Foil surfing is all about gliding smoothly above the water surface. The winged fin is made of steel, aluminium, and fiberglass and lifts a surfboard outside the water even at low speeds. Laird Hamilton was one of the first foil surfers. He attached a foil to his surfboard and proved it to be a smart and valuable weapon in big wave conditions. Kai Lenny, another foil surfing pioneer, tested the foil in windsurfing, kiteboarding, surfing, and even bodyboarding.

Any wave

The big plus of foil surfing is that you can ride even the most horrible waves. But that’s not where you begin. The best way to get started is to find a spot with waves about one or two feet. A jet ski or a boat may help you learn the basics and get used to the riding feel by, for example, grabbing a rope.

Getting started

The best place to attach the foil to the board is different for literally everybody. Position the wing forward in the box if you're a small surfer and need an extra lift. As the waves are getting bigger you move the foil farther back. The traction pads work as guidance to your stance, so place them where your feet should be. Aim for a shoulder-width stance with a lot of front foot pressure. When you're in chest-deep water, paddle out like you do on a regular board. When you see a wave coming, start paddling until you feel you've caught it. As soon as you stand up, put the weight on your front foot, like snowboarding on the slopes. The steeper the wave gets, the more you need to lean forward. As soon as you lean on your front foot, you’ll notice the wing will dive underwater. The more you lean back on your back foot, the more the wing will tilt upright, creating more lift.

Maintaining your balance and Focus

In your first rides, you'll feel a huge difference compared to regular surfing. To maintain your balance, keep your chest vertical and your shoulders open while taking a squat stance. Foil surfing is the spectacular future way of surfing. It requires next level Focus. Luckily, there’s Nightwatch, the 100% Plant Based Extreme Energy Drink fo Fucus & Power. The choice of a new conscious generation.
