Nightwatch and diabetes

Scientists from Italy, Brazil, and Spain have identified Ursolic acid as the bioactive compound in Ilex guayusa most likely responsible for guayusa’s anti-diabetes and anti-metabolic syndrome benefits

It has been a tradition to drink guayusa all day long in Quichua tribe cultures for centuries. And as samples of guayusa were found amongst shamanic possessions in a 1500-year-old tomb? Then this tradition could be millennia old. Before the arrival of Europeans in South-America diabetes was virtually unknown. With more and more natives adopting a western lifestyle and a change in diet to incorporate high fat and refined carbohydrates, there is a rise in “Western diseases” such as diabetes. A recent study showed a prevalence of diabetes to be higher in urban populations compared to jungle populations. This lower prevalence amongst jungle populations could partially be due to the traditional diets including herbal teas such as guayusa.

Scientists from Italy, Brazil, and Spain have identified Ursolic acid as the bioactive compound in Ilex guayusa most likely responsible for guayusa’s anti-diabetes and anti-metabolic syndrome benefits.

Unlike most caffeinated plants, guayusa contains high amounts of pentacyclic triterpenoid acids and alcohols. Phytochemical research revealed an Ursolic acid content of 0.7-1% and amyrin acids up to 0.5%. This is very unusual for dietary plants. Ursolic acid was identified as responsible for guayusa’s activation of TGR5, a relevant nuclear receptor for preventing and management of diabetes and metabolic syndrome. this receptor is involved in the regulation of energy expenditure and insulin sensitivity.

Nightwatch is mainly an extract of guayusa leaves, in a marketplace dominated by highly sugared beverages, Nightwatch strives to be an alternative with your health in mind. Instead of addicting you to excessive amounts of sugars Nightwatch has gradually been lowering its carbohydrate contents from 9 grams per 100 ml at the time of its conception, to 4,2 grams of carbohydrates as we speak. Avantgarde consumers of Nightwatch have been getting used to ever lower amounts of sugars and we are not done reducing by far. Research is continuing to replace or totally do without sweeteners.

ower carbohydrate content, fruit-sugars with the lower glycemic index, bioactive compounds from guayusa leaves, are just a few of the reasons to choose Nightwatch over less considerate beverages.
